The little kid at the airport

Little dark eyes looked up
A wave, and in return a shy smile
Shyness won
Mother's cloth protects against all.
A curious glance, then a shy smile
My heart grew distracted more
Little nothings passed between us
Then they walked away,
The little boy, family, bags and all
To an unknown design.

The January Santa

Past midnight she came, darkness providing refuge,
The stairs grumbled and sighed in protest.
Now the stocking hung, she wistfully watched
The dying embers take their last breaths.
Death called out like a panacea, however,
Reconciliation lay in Time's hand alone.
With morning came, excited voices
And the pitter patter of little feet.
The stocking discovered, dolls and cars and trains
Held tightly in each little hand.
Unnoticed and unobserved, the little girl held
The discarded stocking close to her little heart.

Lit Nights

I missed home yesterday.
I missed home while the bursting crackers sang a loud lullaby,
And the skies lit up in blazing glory
I still missed home as the resounding lullaby lulled me
Deeper into the warm, safe grasp of Sleep.

Have you?

Have you ever wished for someone..., anyone to just understand?
Have you ever cried desperately into your pillow at nights for them?
Have you lain awake and wondered what would it be like?
Has your heart broken into a million pieces when you find out that fairy tales and love don't exist?
Have you then screamed a silent scream of a broken soul, forever?
Have you then heard just silence as reply?
Have you then prayed for an end to this misery?
Have you then, closed your eyes and asked to be let free?

A Tribute

For everyone who has dared to raise their voices and rise against any prevalent unjust systems...

An ubiquitous silence prevails,
Dominating over the voice Of their fears...
An undercurrent of wanting floats
Wanting to be heard
Over the deafening silence,
Ominous silence.
Sole souls who raise their voices
Suffer sufferings for their act of Bravery and justice,
Solidarity is their crime...
Representatives of common yearning
Have paid the price
With their toil, their blood,
With their souls.
A simple "thank you",
Does not suffice
The extent to which we are indebted to you,
Oh! Brave souls!
Heed our wills
Justice will be done
Truth will prevail.
Our voices will be heard
This silence will be forever broken
And be filled with the sounds of Twinkling, tinkling dreams,
The horn of hope,
Your will, will be done!

Devotion

Beside his grave she serenaded
 An Ode to love lost
 Romeo and Juliet's tragic love
Seeking solace in the arms of death
In quest for the lost endearing charm
A prospect easily ignored, never.

I wrote this after seeing a picture. I could post the picture here, but I believe it's copyrighted.
But here is a description of it. It depicted a young woman playing a harp in front of a grave in the dead of night.
And the above lines, were my first thoughts...

Temptation

The calls of the depraved
A million miles away
Beckon
A palate never tasted
Standing at the edge
Peering into the darkness yonder
To what it offered
A new life awaited
Sinful and decadent.
While the old one looked on,
The face of an old man
Writ with the wrinkles of wisdom
And eyes of sadness
And acquiescence.

Butterflies

They danced and they twirled
On petals that curled
Blithesome and lighthearted
Ludic souls of nature
Fluttering unaware
Their wings of flight
In another world
Brew rising storms.

When I was young, perhaps in 4th or 5th grade, I remember writing poems on butterflies and eagerly waiting to show them to my father. After those couple of years, I never wrote any poems, high school promised to be more exciting. And it was during these years that I came to learn, again through my father, that as beautiful as their wings can be, they can bring about death and destruction too. A butterflies wings fluttering in one part of the world can bring about a storm/tornado in another part of the world.
Over the years my father reminded me about the poems I used to write. And it is only now that I have finally taken up my pen to write one on Butterflies again.
So...this is for you Papa!

The Hero

The Hero

The sepulcher of joy
A never ending quest
 For the panacea of death
Where alchemists have fallen
He will rise.

Beauty

Sweet cherub-ed Cupid was but a subservient to her wishes
Lovers were a plenty, so were the gifts showered upon her
Lovelorn and love lost were they, enchanted by an ethereal beauty
Oh her, men were lost, for they came in numbers more
At night she reigned, a queen, an Aphrodite come forth
By day she groomed, Vanity her companion constant
Her heart an icy cold, raged with the fire of passion
A goddess she was not, immortality not her suit
And an end must be, the permanent outcome
Beauty was she, but Vanity was her fall.

Trees

Over the green
Beneath the brown
Sentries and observers
Of years past stand still
Through the flaky wisps of time.
They watch,
Immovable bystanders.
Silent perceivers and beholders
Of the fate of many.
I gaze and I gaze...
I wish and I want
Will ye not tell me
The stories of centuries past ?!

Cruel Hope

Every hope
Broken,
Foolish heart
Refuses the lesson
And hope...
Hope still wins
Smirks
O taunting hope
Bribes and beckons.
Yet again...and again.
An end never changing
Awaits.
The delicate dream
Shattered remains.
Lone shoulders
Burdened left alone.
O imprudent heart,
Will ye not learn yet?!
Hope shall spring eternal
But you...O you...
Shall remain defeated.

The Hunt

20 JANUARY 2014, 22:54
Quick...a movement
The leaves quiver
A trail to follow
Glistening eyes of the doe
Eyes that twinkle with mischief and play
The arrow misses
The doe bounds and leaps
The air, a companion faithful.
A bush, red with wet berries,
Rubies in the woods
Provides refuge
Another arrow...
Misses its mark
But injured hind legs
Betray their master's trust
Too late, realization hits
The game for the doe
Turns into desperate survival .
Eyes that glistened
Now cowed in fear and dread
Of a future uncertain.
Mischievous eyes change Acceptance marks there depths
Of no life.
The end grew near
Tendrils of darkness reach out
An arrow aimed, and hit
On its mark
Proud arrow, lifeless doe!
With the last rays of the golden sun
The sadistic hunter claims its prey!

Rebellion...

20 JANUARY 2014, 19:16
A rendezvous
A secret exchanged
Over sweet memories.
Talk...fierce...independence...
Hushed.
Stamping rhythmic feet
Screams and shouts of terror
Shrieks that make the blood run cold
Quick...fast death.
The booted feet return
From whence they came forth.
What remains...splattered blood.
With only the moon and trees
As witnesses
And a story to tell.

Death

20 JANUARY 2014, 18:55
There she lay
Bound forever in an
Eternal embrace with
The maker of her shell
Silent.
Empty eyes gazing into
Nothingness
Too young- they said
Dreams and hopes
Lie in vain.
All that's left are her
Memories.
And she lies there still
Even as the seasons change
And the shadows grow longer still.

A Broken Wineglass

Words of her heart
That shall never leave her lips
She sighs
Her breath a whirl of smoke
Her gaze wanders
Over the expanse of opulence
That surrounded her
Grandeur that did not touch her
She tipped her crystal wineglass
Her lips parted
Hiding the depths of a secret not yet conquered
Now the wineglass rested on the balustrade
The night grew old
And the air cold
Her eyed glazed, Unfathomable,Looking off
To an unattainable future
The music flowed out
The wooden sentries
Laughter and hoped blended
In an eternal symphony of the heart
But she stood alone behind the balustrade
Lost in an ocean of her thoughts
A world of her own
The waning moon lit her hair
Black that almost looked blue
She closed her eyes
With one last look of longing
And a sigh that lacked all hope
With a flick of her hand
The wineglass flew
Where the air blew
And the earth grew
Even as she turned
To face the world
The breaking glass
Hid the sound of a different breaking.

She rose...

With her chin tilted in pride
The arrogance of an upturned nose
The elegance of a swans neck
The dancers fluidity in motion
Elegance and grace combined
Fiery independence
Sparkled like gems in her eyes
Free will an choice
She advocated
Went through life
Mistress of herself
Cherished and looked up to
Loved and betrothed
Married and old
When age caught up with her
Still she retained
That elegance and grace
A beauty time could not steal
And when Death came
To take her away
She rose
To greet Death
With a smile.

Love

01 DECEMBER 2013, 13:23
Seeking a treasure
That forever eludes
My attempts at
Claiming it for my own
Remain unaffected
Unsatisfactory
Fate remained
Unyielding
Impassive
To my outbursts
Of impatience and wanting
A treasure that forever eludes...

A Hearts Tale

14 DECEMBER 2013, 13:57
Turmoils of the heart
Sent love asunder
Threatened and hurt
By needless thoughts
Betrayed...
A wall was raised
A fortress against
Any penetration
And inside in the
Deepest darkest dungeons
Rested
A once loved
A once hopeful
A once red heart!

Good or Evil

16 DECEMBER 2013, 00:07
Thorns and roses
Always go together
Without one the other
Never exists
Eternally together
Forever bound
Just like with the good
Comes the evil
Forever parts one
Only a matter of time
Before good turns evil
Or evil turns good
Its not a war
But a matter of mind
For where your mind points
There it leads
And that final position
Justifies your standing!
