Childish Longing

A childhood longing
In vain persists
Of freedom known
Once, but lost hence
Over the tides of time
A deep yearning
Of that bygone
Feeling
The stigma that yet
Hangs over us,
Paragon of all evil
Portends what we must
All become.
A foreshadow, a presage
An omen
Of impending misfortune
Surrounds us
Hope yet there still is
To gain that
Child-like simplicity
And free us
From our impending dooms
A wish that remains
Unfulfilled
Of a childish longing
In vain.
